+ Lolita Ramblings and Wishlist

 June 3, 2023

In honor of it being summer International Lolita Day (although this definitely wont be posted today) I wanted to talk a little (a lot) about my history with egl fashion, including my current wishlist/lolita goals for this year!! Ahem....

+ It Begins +

I remember the first few times I saw lolitas in public, and I'll never forget the amazement I felt seeing them. The first time I was about 10/11 years old, I don't recall exactly where I was (maybe a museum?) but I remember seeing a girl in a full sweet lolita coord. I remember being in awe as we walked past her, and I also remember some guy asking for a photo (um.. at least the asked..? lol). The next time I was 13, I was in a weird art mall (details are blurry) and this girl was working in a boutique. I remember her wearing a yellow sweet lolita dress and having dark red hair. My dad said to me, "She looks like Strawberry Shortcake." I responded something along the lines of, "I know. It's amazing." The last instance I saw lolitas before knowing what they were wearing was when I was 14. I remember where I was but it's maybe a little embarrassing!! (It was a Dan and Phil show.... I was gay and 14 leave me alone!) Anyway, it was two girls, all decked out and one thing I specifically remember was they were each wearing a pair of pastel YRU platform sneakers, one pink, one blue.

It was pretty soon after that I finally found the term "lolita fashion" somewhere online, but unfortunately, I have no idea from where. Maybe Instagram? Youtube? My friend who had similar interests as me? I don't remember the details, I just remember becoming obsessed. I watched allll the popular 2018 lolita youtubers and followed all the lolitas I could find. Even though I was usually drawn to darker aesthetics, and of course Mana-Sama mesmerized  me (Just like he does to everyone else lol), I couldn't help but love the cuteness that was sweet lolita-specifically OTT.

But long story short, over the years after trying sweet, old school, and gothic lolita, I realized that even though I truly loved the way sweet lolita looked on other people, it simply didn't fit me. I took a break from lolita for about a year, and then in 2022 my interest was suddenly struck again as I got into Malice Mizer (and vkei in general) and remembered oh yeah! Mana is pretty interesting!! Gothic lolita is cool and I should wear it more!

I had bought Iron Gate, and don't get me wrong- I love it. But I still don't have enough to coord it well yet. It's a little embarrassing to seem so ita when I know I know how to wear lolita. Last wear was very hard for me financially, and so I couldn't focus too much on all the lolita coords I wanted. But now that my life is back on track I'd like to finally change that, sooner than later. Which brings us to the wishlist!

+ EGL Wants as of June 2023 +

- Any black & white old school JSK

- Moi Meme Moitie Lace Cross JSK (Blue; 2018 or earlier preferably)

- Moi Meme Moitie Neo Gothic Arch JSK (Black)
- Alice and the Pirates Pirate Pattern JSK

- Any dark floral print JSK

- Any simple black JSK (surprisingly hard to find)

- Maryjane heels

- A variety of blouses, OTKs, tights, headdresses etc etc

In general, I've found I prefer simple lolita dresses on myself most of the time, I love the simple yet elegant look that gothic, old school, and classic styles can bring. Along with buying, there are a few other lolita-related goals I have in mind for myself:

- Sell my Angelic Pretty A La Carte Tea Time JSK

- Sell my Diamond Honey Gothic Skull Cross JSK (super beautiful- just not my style of gothic anymore)

- Go to events in lolita (possibly a meet?? ooo)

- Post coord pics!

I have a friend who wants to have a picnic or something with me while in lolita this summer, so I want to buy at least one new JSK within the next few months. I can feel myself getting back into lolita already lol. Like all my hyper fixations... it comes in waves.

I'm sure there's a lot more I could say in this, but my brain is a little fried and it isn't like I can't make another post later! Regardless if anyone ever finds and let-alone reads this blog, I'll be sure to update my progress as the years goes on.

Happy Belated International Lolita Day!
